Europe plans to completely ban cadmium in plastics

China Drying News Europe Committee is considering extending the regulations for limiting cadmium in plastics from the existing 16 materials listed in Annex XVII of REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) to all plastic materials. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) stated that it will conduct a case review of the full ban and called for the plastics industry to provide evidence.

Cadmium compounds have historically been used as stabilizers in PVC materials. In 2011, the European Commission banned cadmium in PVC, but before that, PVC producers in Europe have gradually stopped using cadmium. The ECHA invited interested parties to submit their opinions and opinions on cadmium through the online questionnaire published on the ECHA website by February 11.
