On January 24, Sinopec Corp. and BASF held a ground-breaking ceremony for a joint-venture world-scale isodecyl alcohol plant construction project in Maoming High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Guangdong Province.
The device is the first isononanol production plant in China and will be put into production in 2015, and is affiliated to a joint venture established by both parties at a 50:50 ratio: Maoming Petrochemical BASF Co., Ltd. to meet the growing demand for new generation plasticizers in the market. .
Isononyl alcohol is a raw material for the production of a new generation of plasticizers and is mainly used for the production of new generation plasticizers such as diisodecyl phthalate (DINP) and non-phthalate esters. DINP is a plasticizer widely used in the automotive, cable, flooring, construction and other industrial fields, and non-phthalate esters are used in sensitive applications such as toys, food contact and medical applications.
Sinopec and BASF have established long-term cooperative relations. In Nanjing, Sinopec and BASF jointly operated a joint venture company, Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF, with a 50:50 ratio in 2000.
